How to Wash a Hand-tied Wig? Tips and 5 Key Steps

Introduction
Wigs have become a must-have for fashion lovers. Many people wear them every day and love using them. But after wearing a wig for a long time, it will get dirty. How to clean a wig properly—so it’s clean without damaging it—is a common question for wig wearers.

Useful Tip for Brushing Long Wigs

When brushing a long wig, divide it into several sections and brush from the bottom up. Be gentle and patient. It’s normal to have a small amount of hair fall out while combing or wearing the wig.

  1. Never Wash with a Washing Machine

The strong spinning of a washing machine may cause the wig to shed a lot, or even fall apart completely.

  1. Use Warm Water for Washing

When washing the wig, first soak it in warm water (15~30 degrees Celsius is best) for about 5 minutes. Water that’s too hot will shorten the wig’s lifespan.

  1. Air-Dry Naturally

After washing, do not spin-dry it in a washing machine, blow it with a hair dryer, or dry it in direct sunlight. The correct way is to absorb excess water with a dry towel and then let it air-dry naturally.

  1. Use Mild Shampoo

Use a small amount of mild shampoo and wash the wig by hand gently. Do not rub too hard, and do not soak it for a long time.

  1. Store in a Ventilated Place

Although wigs are not real hair, they still need to be stored in a ventilated place. Otherwise, residual water and shampoo may damage the wig easily.
